The Magic of Forest School - Staff Stories
All our staff LOVE their job.
This is how Jennifer discovered the magic of Forest School with her son Fraser who is registered blind.
‘Forest School has continually brought great benefits to my son Fraser.
He attended the ASN baby room at our Local Authority nursery to support him due to his Visual Impairment.
Registered blind, the confines of the nursery room and structured day bored him. He was frequently frustrated and upset following rules and the same old routine. He was always a very motivated and energetic child nursery time only stifled this.
In Forest School he had freedom.
He was free to test his own limits and learn to experience and evaluate age-appropriate risks all with the enthusiastic support and encouragement from the wonderful Forest School Leader, Susan.
I collected my elated pre-schooler his mud-splattered face beaming every week.
He has few options in after-school leisure activities as there aren’t many offered in our area catering to disabled children. Club coaches lose patience and he has never stuck at anything as there was no enjoyment in spending time being told what to do.
As he approaches his senior years of Primary School, Forest School is still relevant for him.
He still has somewhere to go, where he is accepted for who he is. The outdoors hold no barriers it’s fully accessible. It builds his self-esteem and independence.
Forest School opens the world to our children and I’m so glad to see Fraser take part."
